A product kit represents the virtual grouping of products sold as one item. Product kits include non-orderable products such as displays, shelves, and price tags. Kit items do not contribute to the discounting scheme of the brand, except for pricing-bound kit items. Bundle Packs, for comparison, represent a grouping of orderable products; the bundle pack itself does not have a list price, but it allows for the grouping of multiple products in one bundle to speed up the ordering process and facilitates shipping.
Enabling Product Kits
There are two types of kits:
- Non-Fixed Kits - Configured using the same kit items as Fixed Kits, but the kit name is not displayed on the order with the items, and each item in the kit is displayed as a distinct order line. Users can specify the quantities of each kit item.
- Fixed Kits - Rendered on the order as a pre-set package of items to be shipped, with the kit name. Users enter the quantity desired for the Product Kit and the quantities of the items in the kit are automatically updated.
Manual entry of Free Goods is not allowed for Fixed Kits.
To enable Fixed Kits, select the Kit_Components_Fixed_vod Veeva Setting check box. This setting can be used with Single Entry or Mass Entry Mode. By default, the check box is deselected (Non-Fixed Kits).
Using Product Kits
Product Kits are composed of the following Product Catalog records:
- Kit Header
- Parent Product is the selected brand
- Product Type is Order
- Kit Items
- Parent Product is the Kit Header
- Product Type is Kit Item
A Product Kit is linked to the brand by setting the Parent_Product_vod field to the product record where Product_Type_vod is Detail. Kit items are linked to the Kit by setting the Parent _Product_vod field to the corresponding Kit record.
For example, to configure a Product Kit for a heart wellness card display that also promotes the cholesterol drug Narbrax:
- Create a parent product called Narbrax in the Product Catalog:
- Set the Product_Type_vod field to Detail
- Create a kit called Heart Wellness Card Kit:
- Set the Parent_Product_vod field to Narbrax
- Set the Product_Type_vod field to Order
- Create items to be part of the kit:
- Set the Parent_Product_vod field to Heart Wellness Card Kit
- Set the Product_Type_vod field to Kit Item
- Define two pricing rules for each kit item:
- List Price Rule
- Limit Rule - to determine the default quantity (unbound)
The Kit itself (where the Product_Type_vod field is set to Order) does not need its own Pricing Rule. The Kit does not display unless all Kit Items are defined with a pricing rule.
For Fixed Kits, users enter quantities for the Kits they want to order. Once the number of kits is specified, the quantities of the items in the kit are automatically updated.
For Non-Fixed Kits, the kit header does not display. Users enter quantities for each kit item they want to order.
Kit Items do not receive Product Group, Brand Level, or Total Order Level discounts. For example, if a Brand Level Pricing Rule gives a 20 percent discount on all Cholecap items, the discount is not applied to Cholecap items in a kit. However, if a user orders a kit containing 10 Cholecap and a Pricing Rule offers a 10 percent discount on Orders of more than 50, the 10 Cholecap in the kit count toward the 50.
